news_shipwreck_San_Jose_treasure_hunters.jpgThe Grand Canyon, The Great Wall of China, Chichen Itza, the Taj Mahal... these are just a few of the natural and man-made wonders of the world. Many of us have probably seen at least one of them, and if not, may be planning to. But what about the "other" wonders of the world -- the missing wonders... no one has seen them in a very long time.

An interesting article in the Wall Street Journal talks about these missing wonders, where they may or may not be, and who's trying to locate them. A search for one of these lost artifacts would be a a real adventure:

1. Amelia Earhart's plane -- Amelia Earhart disappeared and her plane was never found. Some people think it sank when she ran out of fuel, others think she crashed in New Guinea, and still other think she returned to the U.S. and lived out her years as a housewife with an alias.

2. Sunken Ship San Jose -- San Jose is said to have $1 billion in treasure buried with it. This guy thinks he's found it, but not everyone is so sure.

3. Tomb of Nefertiti -- No one is sure where this 14th century B.C. Queen of Egypt was laid to rest, even though this woman claims to be.

4. Battle of Anghiari -- This mural, painted by Leonardo da Vinci and said by some to be his greatest masterpiece, was last seen in the mid 16th century. Some think that it's been preserved beneath another masterpiece by Giorgio Vasari.

5. Genghis Khan's Tomb Genghis Khan was said to have died in 1237 but no one knows where this mogul conqueror was buried.

6. The Amber Room -- A great Baroque art masterpiece, the Amber Room was paneled entirely in amber, with amber mirrors and marble mosaics. It was a gift to Peter the Great in 1716, but hasn't been seen since 1945.

7. The Holy Grail -- No one agrees on exactly what the Holy Grail is, never mind where it is.
