Halloween CandyWhen it comes to holidays, Halloween tops the list for spending money on disposable things - like costumes and sugary treats. But a recent poll shows people are spending less money this year on Halloween than they have in a long time - down to $56.31 a person from $66.31 a person last year.

But no matter what else people cut back on - haunted houses, hayrides, costumes, decorations - people are still buying brand name candy.

I suppose candy is like outdoor gear and apparel - generic knock offs just don't cut it. No little kid wants to get a generic candy bar in his Halloween bag. (And I certainly don't want a generic performance fleece in mine.) It just goes to show you that quality counts - whether it be Halloween candy, a new soft shell jacket, a climbing harness, a pair of snowboard boots or a pair of skis. Long-lasting quality you can trust is worth the extra dollar every time.

I can't help you out with savings on chocolate and Pez dispensers (although, here's a hint - M&M's and Mike and Ikes yield the most bang for your buck), but I can help you out with brand name outdoor gear and apparel you can trust (and save you 35-70% off retail prices)... shop at Sierra Trading Post!

And tell me what you're saving on this Halloween (if anything) below.
