It's been almost a year since legendary adventurer Steve Fossett went missing while flying over of a remote area of Nevada desert. He was never found and reports are now surfacing that the whole thing may have been an elaborate sham. Steve Fossett may have faked his own death.

Could he have? Certainly. He was an extraordinary adventurer, explorer, and survivalist. The plane he was flying, according to sources, could have been easily dismantled and hidden. He was also worth billions of dollars - surely enough to expedite his escape from the country and set him up nicely somewhere off the radar. But did he actually fake his own death? No one knows for sure, but some people think it's possible - probable even. His plane hasn't been found, his body hasn't been found... nothing has been found.



The search for the wreckage is the largest search-and-rescue effort in U.S. history. Many believe if Fossett and his plane were out there, they would have been found by now.

The Adventurist blog has done a thorough job of covering the Fossett story and subsequent search since the explorer's disappearance last year. Here are two quotes from The Adventurist post about the possibility of Fossett faking his own death...

I discovered that there is absolutely no proof that Steve Fossett is actually dead. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, I’m a man who deals in facts, and I don’t really care if he is alive or dead, it make no difference to me.”What I am interested in is the truth - and a proper criminal investigation of this man’s disappearance was never undertaken by law enforcement or officials in the state of Nevada.”

From News of the World:
But now the official search spokeswoman, Lieutenant Colonel Cynthia Ryan of the US Civil Air Patrol, has told the News of the World she believes he may NOT have crashed.
She said: “Anything is possible. There are a lot of raised eyebrows— even more so now. I know very few people here, friends in law enforcement, that buy this story like the rest of the world has.”

Some people think financial concerns and his failing marriage could have been reason enough for Fossett to fool the world into thinking he was gone.
