Katie SpotzAn incredible journey for a good cause... 22-year-old rower Katie Spotz is making final preparations to row across the Atlantic Ocean to benefit Blue Planet Run, a non-profit organization that provides clean drinking water to some of the world's billions of people who lack it.

Spotz is not new to adventure challenges - she was the first person to swim the entire length of the Allegheny River, some 352 miles. She undertook that challenge to raise awareness of the world's drinking water crisis as well.

Spotz is set to begin the 2,500 mile row on December 28th and it will take betwen 70 to 250 days to complete, depending on many factors and variables. She's setting out from Dakar in Senegal, South Africa and will be making landfall somewhere in South America. Her boat is 19-feet long and was specially designed to take on the challenges of open ocean rowing. You can stay updated on Katie's journey by following the blog on her website.

Good luck, Katie! May the ocean be gentle and your arms strong.
