Longs Peak Summit via the Keyhole

Rising high above all other summits in Rocky Mountain NP, Longs Peak is the most beloved and well-known peak in the park. But hiking or climbing it is no cake walk. Claiming 56 lives to date, and warranting an average of 60 rescue missions a season, Longs Peak is not for the faint of heart. But, according to the mountaineers that make it (only 30% actually do), the views at the top are worth the thrills & chills of the approach. Our friends Greg & Rebecca summited Longs last weekend and shared their photos with the Blogging Post... this is what Rebecca had to say...

"Greg and I hiked Long's Peak this weekend. The 14,259-ft peak is the highest point in Rocky Mountain National Park and one of the most difficult "14'ers" in Colorado...


Campsite_at_the_Boulder_Field_Rebecca.JPG On Saturday, we started at 9,405 feet at the trailhead and hiked 6 miles to our campsite in the Boulder Field at 12,760 feet. There, we enjoyed the spectaular views and endured freezing temperatures and howling winds...


Longs_Peak_Trough_Rebecca.jpgOn Sunday morning we began our 2-hour, 2-mile ascent to the summit where we were rewarded with more unbelievable views. It was an awesome and challenging experience... one Greg and I have agreed to never do again!"
