They were missing for four days and officials were starting to worry they'd run out of supplies and that the cold and snow had been too much for them. But two elk hunters (not pictured) managed to dig their way out of paralyzingly deep snow and save their own lives.
The brothers were hunting last week near Glenwood Springs, Colorado when a snowstorm hit and dumped multiple feet of snow on them. When they didn't return from their trip on Friday, their families became worried and called officials, who began searching for the duo on Saturday, to no avail.
Luckily, the brothers managed to get to their vehicle and remain inside for warmth. No doubt things may have been different had they not been able to reach the vehicle. There are few details on how they managed to free the truck from the snow, other than that they were "exhausted" from digging it out.
This story is a good reminder to those of us who drive in the mountains to make sure you and your vehicle are well-equipped with extra food, water, blankets, flashlights and a shovel just in case something like this were to happen. It pays to be prepared.
