Sierra Trading Post would be nothing without the support and loyalty of our customers. From day one, (over 23 years ago) we’ve put our customers first and have always believed that to be the key to our success.

To test our theory, we decided to reach out to our most loyal friends, those who have been shopping with us for years. We wanted to get to know them, hear their stories and learn about their experiences with Sierra Trading Post. So we sent them each a letter asking them to share their MySTP Story, or the reason they’ve been shopping with us for so long. Here’s what long-time customers Bill (pictured) and Jean from Reno had to say...


Bill and Jean have been shopping at Sierra Trading Post from the very beginning. In fact, they knew owner Keith Richardson when he worked for Sportif in Reno, before founding STP. "We knew Keith before he started Sierra Trading Post and have been customers since the store opened its doors," says Bill. "Last time I saw Keith, he flagged me down to say hello in the store because he recognized me."

Bill admits things have changed a bit over the years at Sierra Trading Post. "A lot of the staff I used to know have moved on so it's a different shopping experience for me and we don't buy as much gear as we used to," says Bill. "But it's still nice to be able to get quality gear we can't find anywhere else in Reno at great prices."

The quality of the products is Jean's favorite thing about Sierra Trading Post. "I can get good quality stuff at STP that lasts a long time that I can't get anywhere else at that price," says Jean. "I can buy better quality stuff that I couldn't afford elsewhere. Most recently, I purchased really nice wool blankets that I wouldn't have been able to purchase anywhere else because I wouldn't have paid more. I can spend the same amount at STP that I would somewhere else, but I leave with items of much higher quality."

Bill agrees. "STP has been really helpful and the gear I've purchased there has served me well for many years," says Bill. "Sometimes you can find odd stuff and sometimes you can't find the size you need, but generally it makes it easier to get good gear that can prepare you well for the backcountry."

Bill and Jean have purchased a wide array of products from STP over the years. "We've pretty much bought everything at some point," says Bill. "Hiking, backpacking, and climbing gear, pajamas, clothing, blankets, binoculars and even the occasional menswear. We've bought a couple pairs of really nice binoculars that we still use and we got a great deal. Jean finds neat stuff she can't find anywhere else locally. Other than STP, Reno doesn't have the best shopping."

And if a product doesn't work out, Bill says making a return has never been a problem. "STP is good on returns and you can't beat the quality at these prices."
