Sierra Trading Post would be nothing without the support and loyalty of our customers. From day one, (over 23 years ago) we’ve put our customers first and have always believed that to be the key to our success.
To test our theory, we decided to reach out to our most loyal friends, those who have been shopping with us for years. We wanted to get to know them, hear their stories and learn about their experiences with Sierra Trading Post. So we sent them each a letter asking them to share their MySTP Story, or the reason they’ve been shopping with us for so long… here’s the dialogue from our conversation with long-time customers Dave and Kay of McCall, Idaho.
Dave & Kay's MySTP Story:
1. How long have you been shopping with Sierra Trading Post? How did you originally hear about us?
"That’s a real memory test for some 60-somethings! Sorry, but we fail. We heard about Sierra Trading Post when the only store was in Sparks, Nevada. That was probably some time in the 1980s. I do recall that the Christian pledges and service statement were very attractive."
2. How would you say we’ve improved over the years? What would you say has stayed the same?
"Commitment to customer satisfaction has remained a high point with Sierra Trading Post. That has been unfailing in every respect. The range of available products has gotten better. Shipping has been improved and is now quicker than ever, even though there was a year or two when shipping was a tad slow."
3. Is there any one thing, or combination of things, that has made you such a loyal customer?
"Customer service and predictable product quality has been the key. Any time we wanted to find out about whether a product was a closeout, new, or other facts, the information was available or made available. An unknown brand, like Alico boots turned out to be a real treasure racking up more than 4000 miles and still going."
4.Was there a time when our customer service team went above and beyond for you?
"Wow, there have been so many times that Sierra Trading Post customer service has risen to the occasion that it’s hard to list them all. There was the time that Dave had a few-weeks-old pair of boots that failed three days from the nearest Wilderness airstrip, after getting to the airstrip with a broken foot, Sierra Trading Post replaced the boots with a new pair of another brand in just days. There was the time that the new fly rod for Kay had the tip break off on the second day on the water, and Sierra Trading Post had a new rod in the mail that same day. There are just too many occasions to document, but customer service is one of the real treasures of Sierra Trading Post."
5. Does any particular purchase or experience with us stand out in your mind?
"There are no purchases in particular that stand out, and that’s a very good thing. Consistent service and dedication to the customer has come through every time. In a couple of instances, manufacturer's incorrect information was passed on to us, but that has been only a couple of minor instances."
6. What type of purchases do you normally make from our Company?
"We started with purchases of clothing and still probably look at our needs for those the most. However, we’ve purchased fly fishing equipment, tables, knives, window curtains, and other items with equal satisfaction."
7. Are there any other notable stories you’d like to share about your long-term relationship with Sierra Trading Post?
"We are not sure that the stories are notable. We would say that what is notable is that Sierra Trading Post put a Christian spin on customer service and that over the years they have lived up to that. There are few businesses of which we are aware that have made public their commitment and then tried to live by that commitment. It is notable that we have done business with many firms who lived by a creed to make only profits and many of those businesses are no longer in existence."

Thanks again, Dave and Kay! We truly appreciate your continued support.
