National Geographic AdventureWe were going to feature John Rasmus, the editor-in-chief of National Geographic Adventure magazine, on our Adventure Edge Radio podcast this week. But, unfortunately, that's no longer happening.

Due to a decline in advertising dollars, the magazine has announced plans to cease publication immediately. The December/January 2009 edition of National Geographic Adventure magazine will be its last.

In the meantime, National Geographic will attempt to rework the Adventure brand, "from traditional print to a multi-platform model that will include newsstand editions, books, e-magazines, mobile applications and a robust Web site."

“We’re tremendously proud of what John Rasmus and his team have accomplished over the last 10 years,” NG Publishing President John Q. Griffin said in making the announcement. “They have consistently delivered award-winning editorial to an enthusiastic audience of readers and advertisers. But given the current advertising environment and the opportunities we see in emerging digital platforms, we think the time is right to transition the Adventure brand.”

As a reader of Nat Geo Adventure, I'd just like to thank the magazine and wish the contributing writers, editors, designers and adventurers the best of luck in future endeavors.
