While a green turkey may not sound all that appetizing (sounds like it might make you sick)... everything else on Thanksgiving looks great "green".

Here are a few things we can do to make this Thanksgiving the most eco-friendly ever...

1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

- Avoid waste this Thanksgiving and buy only what you need.
- When you're shopping, look for items with the least amount of packaging.
- Rather than throwing things away, try to reuse them in some way.
- Recycle paper, cardboard, glass, aluminum. If they won't take it at the curb, find your local recycling center and see if they will.
- If you're celebrating at home, now is a great time to start a compost pile.

2. Shop for locally-grown, organic food. It's better for you and better for the planet. Invest in canvas shopping bags and bring them to the store every time you shop to avoid using plastic bags.

3. Use real and reusable (not disposable) utensils, dinnerware, table ware, tablecloths, etc. Using something once is not enough.

3. Plant a tree. Why not start a new tradition and plant a tree every Thanksgiving? What a wonderful way to give thanks.

4. Use Tupperware or other reusable containers to store leftovers instead of wasting plastic wrap or aluminum foil.

4. Volunteer. This is a great time to get involved with your local soup kitchen or rescue mission. Not everyone is lucky enough to have friends, family, and food on Thanksgiving.

5. Invite your neighbors over for dinner. Make it a truly local celebration.

6. If you're taking a road trip, get a tune up before you leave, change your air filter, and be sure your tires are fully inflated.

7. If you're flying, consider purchasing carbon credits to offset your emissions.

8. Give a turkey a break and cook a Tofurky instead.
