If you like spectator sports, you're going to love this list prepared by MSNBC... The Top 10 Must-See Sporting Events.
From sailing to dogsledding, this list includes the best fixed-location sporting events in the world (events that change location, like the Olympics, were not included). These world-class events will give you goosebumps, bring you to your feet, and possibly inspire you to try a new sport.
• Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race - The annual 628 nautical mile yacht race along the coast of Australia on Boxing Day (day after Christmas) also happens to be the biggest party of the summer.
• Boca Juniors - One of the most high-energy soccer teams in the world, the Boca Juniors in Buenos Aires, play in a stadium that looks like a box of chocolates.
• The Masters - Tickets are next to impossible to come by for this old school golf tournament in Augusta, GA -- the public can only purchase practice-round tickets. If you want to see the real thing, better make friends with someone on the patron list.
• Wimbledon - The tennis match of the year is played on Centre Court in London. See all the tennis greats here.
• Kentucky Derby - Like to dress up, sip mint juleps, and wear big hats? Don't miss the Kentucky Derby, where you can also see (and bet on) a horse race.
• Winter X Games - Held in Aspen, Colorado for the past 7 years, the Winter X Games are a blast. Skiing and boarding's best compete for your attention... and gold medals.
• Tour De France - All doping aside, the Tour de France is pretty cool. 2,200 miles and 20 stages strong, the Tour is grueling for cyclists. If you didn't make the cut, why not relax on the roadside with a plate of French cheese and cheer them on?
• Grand Sumo Tournaments - Heading to Tokyo? Do yourself a favor and don't miss the Grand Sumo Tournaments.
• Ing Bay to Breakers 12k Race - Talk about a fun race. This 12K May run in San Francisco is more costume party than actual competition, with a tortilla toss to kick things off. It'd be worth it just to see the running team that call themselves "Spawning Salmon." They run the race backwards (upstream) through the crowd of 65,000 runners.
• Iditarod - After the blowout kick-off party, you won't see much of the 1,100 mile dogsled journey unless you stay on the Iditarod Trail at Winterlake Lodge. But you can imagine how cold they are from a warm room in Anchorage after you see them off.
