Every good adventure requires a great snack. While I love many of the store-bought energy bars and granola bars on the market, nothing beats homemade energy bars. You can save some money and modify the recipe for the exact taste you prefer. Here is a recipe for delicious soft and chewy granola bars that you can make at home.
Recipe: Homemade Energy Bars
You can easily make your own energy bar. Here are the ingredients you’ll need. This recipe comes from The Vegetarian Family Cookbook.

Preheat oven to 350. Lightly oil a 9″ x 9″ baking pan.
Mix flour, flaxseed/ wheat germ, baking soda, sugar and salt in a bowl and stir.
Pour the applesauce and oil into a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Stir together until completely mixed. Then stir in granola, raisins and chocolate chips.
Pour the mixture into the pan and bake for 20-25 minutes. Let them cool until slightly warm, then cut them into squares.
These homemade energy bars taste great warm or out of the refrigerator. Pack them in the backpack for your next hike or trail run. They’re also a great snack before a run or to put in your child’s school lunch.
You can add nuts for additional protein or replace the raisins with other dried fruit to change the taste. Get creative to customize your own homemade energy bar recipe.
